Standard Bead Sizes
Seed beads are measured with a standardized /0 numbering system.
The higher the number previous to the zero, the smaller the bead.
The number also refers to the approximate number of beads, per inch,
when layed flat (not strung).
In one example, an 11/0 seed bead has approximately 11 beads per inch.
With weaving projects look for beads that are uniform in size and shape.
Most Czech glass seedbeads are of high enough quality for such projects.
Japanese Delica beads are in my opinion, the finest beads for detailed weaving!
Incredibly uniform, small tubes of glass with large holes proportionate to their size.
Delicas are size 11/0, jumbo delicas are size 8/0. and come in a number of colors
exclusive to delicas.
Bugle beads are measured with a standard # sign.
Size #2 is 3/16” long.
Size #3 is 1/4” long.
Size #5 is 1/2” long.
Commonly, Czech seed beads and bugle bead sizes are sold by the hank.
A hank is a quantity of strung beads.
Each hank contains approximately 10-12 strings each 20” long (or 240” total).
Please take note that hanks of 3-cuts and Charlottes are
shorter than standard seed bead hanks.
